Ald. Lawson rejects Cubs’ bid to expand Wrigleyville parking lot

Nearly 90% of responding 44th Ward residents opposed growing the Camry Lot to as many as 947 spaces.

Ald. Bennett Lawson (44th) says he won’t let the Cubs expand their Camry Lot north of Wrigley Field beyond the 800 spaces already permitted, Block Club Chicago reports. The team wanted to grow the lot from 688 spaces to as many as 947 using the former House of the Good Shepherd property it bought from Catholic Charities.

In a survey by Lawson’s office, 89.5% of 490 responding 44th Ward residents opposed the plan, citing traffic and pedestrian safety. Cubs executive Michael Lufrano said the team still believes more parking would help on game days and will keep working with Lawson and neighbors once a city-reviewed traffic study is done.
