Cook County pledges $8 million for south suburban storm cleanup
Cook County will put $8 million toward helping south suburban communities recover from summer storms, Board President Toni Preckwinkle said Tuesday in Oak Forest, the Sun-Times reports. She said the county has helped remove roughly 100,000 cubic yards of debris โ about 5,700 dump-truck loads.
The Aug. 11 storms spawned tornadoes and left half a million customers in the Chicago area without power. Preckwinkle said the money is meant to help towns restore their communities, not just move debris.
