Cook County clerk’s free record-sealing summit is Saturday at Kennedy-King

Pre-register and bring your RAP sheet; the Clean Slate Act changed eligibility rules this year.

Cook County Circuit Clerk Mariyana Spyropoulos hosts her office’s annual second-chance summit Saturday at Kennedy-King College, offering free legal guidance and help preparing petitions to expunge or seal eligible records, Block Club Chicago reports. Residents must pre-register and bring their RAP sheet; those who come prepared can leave with a court date. Last year’s summit led to 890 expungement and 500 sealing filings.

Part of Illinois’ Clean Slate Act took effect June 1, changing eligibility and waiting periods and dropping some drug-testing requirements; automatic sealing of some records is expected to begin in stages in 2029.
