Green water in Boneyard Creek Tuesday? It’s a UIUC spill drill

Crews will release tracer dye near Abbott Power Plant from about 8 to 10 a.m. to rehearse an oil-spill response.

UIUC Facilities & Services, campus public safety and the Champaign Fire Department will rehearse an oil-spill response Tuesday from about 8 to 10 a.m., The Daily Illini reports. Green dye will go into storm drains near Abbott Power Plant and flow toward Boneyard Creek near Bardeen Quad.

Expect emergency vehicles and a mobile command center. The EPA requires the drill every year as part of the power plant’s response plan. To report a real, non-emergency spill, call F&S at 217-333-0340.
