O’Fallon voters will decide whether to eliminate elected clerk and treasurer

The questions go on the April 2027 ballot; a 2010 attempt failed by 21 votes.

O’Fallon, Illinois, voters will decide in the April 6, 2027, municipal election whether to eliminate the elected city clerk and treasurer positions, St. Louis Public Radio reports. The City Council approved ballot language Monday after Mayor Eric Van Hook asked in August whether the offices were needed when professional staff handle most of the duties.

If approved, the changes would take effect in 2029, after the current terms of Clerk Jerry Mouser and Treasurer David Hursey end; the city administrator stressed it is “not a performance review.” The offices date to 1905, and a 2010 referendum to eliminate them failed 1,290 to 1,269.
