Today, 3 p.m.: Sox can clinch the ALDS in their first home playoff game

Newcomb opens vs. Cleveland’s Daniel Espino at Rate Field. Only once before — 1906 — have the Sox hosted a game with a chance to clinch a series.

Up 2–0 in the best-of-five series, the White Sox host Cleveland in ALDS Game 3 at 3 p.m. CT Wednesday at Rate Field — their first home game of this postseason. Per MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, via the Daily Herald, it’s only the second time in franchise history the Sox have played a home game with a chance to clinch a postseason series; the first was Game 6 of the 1906 World Series against the Cubs.

Left-hander Sean Newcomb, who struck out three over two innings in relief in Game 2, gets the start, and manager Will Venable said to expect “all hands on deck,” possibly including arms not yet seen this postseason. Daniel Espino starts for the Guardians, who were held to three runs through two games.
