Roxana refinery is making sustainable jet fuel for United at O’Hare
Gov. JB Pritzker joined Phillips 66, United Airlines and Microsoft leaders to highlight sustainable aviation fuel made at the Wood River Refinery in Roxana, WAND reports. A hydrocracker unit blends conventional jet fuel into SAF that flows to O’Hare; the refinery has produced 11 million gallons through a partnership under the Invest in Illinois Act.
State leaders said the fuel — made from used cooking oil, tallow and distillers corn oil — should offset the emissions of 800,000 passenger trips out of O’Hare in a year. Illinois was the first state to create a sustainable aviation fuel tax credit, which Pritzker said closes the price gap with conventional fuel.
